Obama policy of allowing transgenders in the U.S. Army got reversed by Trump in a recent tweet. President Trump announced on Twitter on Wednesday that the U.S. Military will not allow transgender individuals to serve.
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,” Trump wrote online. Trump broke his announcement in multiple parts. He made another announcement, “Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”
The officials said that the Trump’s decision was highly motivated by conservatives. These conservatives had opposed military spending on the transgender health services. The Pentagon had also planned a review to check the military expenses but White House chief strategist Steve Bannon played a role in pushing Trump ahead with the new policy.
“Sometimes you have to make decisions and once he made a decision, he didn’t feel it was necessary to hold that decision, and they’re going to work together with the Department of Defense to lawfully implement it,“, said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
White House spokeswoman termed it as a military decision. Trump made nothing more than a military decision. Carter had first announced, previous year in June, that military would allow transgender individuals. Those Americans who wanted to serve had to compete for military standards. Currently, 4000 transgender individuals are serving in the military.
People are opposing Trump’s decision to ban transgender members of the military. Other officials think that the military should make other standards to select people rather than choosing people on the basis of their gender. Currently, it is not clear that how the new policy of Trump would be implemented.
This surely contradicts with Trump’s previous claims.
Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.
