Study claims being too handsome can harm a man’s career

Written by Logical Men

Has someone ever heard of a study being carried out for sake of handsome men and their career. Well, this has happened, a recent study carried out by University College London’s School of Management and the University of Maryland in US has concluded something strange which might become an excuse for the handsome men not getting enough in their career.

This study claims that according to the data collected, handsome men can appear to be more of a threat to their bosses when compared with normal men. Hence, hey are less likely to score powerful positions. This study based this claim after observing the hiring processes. The researchers found that when men were hiring other men after an interview, their decision was somehow related to the obvious personality of the candidates who appeared for that particular position.

Now one can think if the women face something similar or not. Well, it’s surprising that the same study concluded that being attractive for women can not hinder their career. This means that women are not going to give someone preferential treatment during interviews just because she appears best. This is less likely to happen with women.

Message of the lead researcher at the University of Maryland

Professor Sun Young Lee who was a lead researcher at the University of Maryland explained a little about what they found during the research process.

Managers are affected by stereotypes and make hiring decisions to serve their own self-interests so organizations may not get the most competent candidates.

Awareness that hiring is affected by potential work relationships and stereotyping tendencies can help organizations improve their selection processes.
