According to a new study, in the year 2135, it is a possibility that an asteroid could wipe out all life form on earth and NASA will not be able to save us. The steroid is taller than the Empire States building. This was revealed in a recent study done by NASA itself.
Findings by the researchers indicate that nothing can be done to stop the huge asteroid from entering the Earth in the next century. Also, the most advanced technology wouldn’t be sufficient enough against the huge celestial object.
Scientists say that this may very well be the end of the life as we know it and it has created an atmosphere of fear among people.
NASA is looking into the possibility of specially designed spacecraft to nuke approaching cosmic objects, which aims to deflect the life-threatening object.
When the object is classified as a near-earth object (NEO), its path could be changed by smashing it into a thing called “Impactor”. According to the scientists, the nuclear explosion will be our last hope if such an event is to occur.
In a newspaper publication the scientists from NASA and the National Nuclear Security Administration have proposed a plan which includes Hypervelocity Asteroid Mitigation Mission for Emergency Response (HAMMER).
The 8.8-ton spacecraft could be smashed into the massive asteroid to deflect its way.
Our planet is not in any immediate danger but there is a probability of the collision is 1 in 2,700.
Even if the probability doesn’t seem like it is very high, this is still a serious threat to the survival of our species. Who knows what kind of innovations the future holds. What we have now, nobody expected three decades ago. People are a little bit skeptic as well because this kind of warning has been issued few times before as well but nothing happened. But the risk is always there, we shouldn’t stop worrying this time because luck has saved us in the past. Human survival is essential because we only started to understand the universe around us. There might not be a viable solution now. But on the other hand, there is nothing wrong with having hope. Because we have defeated all the odds even by existing, that is very special. According to Stephen Hawkings, “We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.“
