People are getting offended after rewatching Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Written by Logical Men

There are different kind of people in the world and their opinions are shaped depending upon the culture in which they reside. Most of the times these cultures are different and change with respect to the geographical bounds. Little do the humans know that in the end they all are humans and nothing is beyond the humanity. Therefore, often thoughts of difference are not removed from the subconscious and one race often thinks itself superior as compared to the other race. Recently people are getting offended after rewatching Ace Ventura. They are watching it with new lens of modernism. It’s a well known fact that 90s was quite a busy time for Jim Carrey as he was busy acting in different scripts. Many of these scripts became quite popular and became a foundation stone for the popularity of the actor. The Mask, Dumb and Dumber along with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective are few of his successful movies.

The movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is being deemed harmful for the younger generation. It’s being said that the movie is problematic for the younger generation. If someone takes his mind back in the 90s, given that he was conscious in those years, then he can remember that Jim Carrey played lead role in the movie Ace Ventura as he tried to find out the thief of Miami Dolphins’ mascot. Those who haven’t watched it should not read more into the details of this article because of the spoilers it includes. The dolphin mascot of the Miami’s NFL team gets abducted during the movie and soon after a few players meet the same fate. Then, the services of a private detective are hired to find the missing. Ace Ventura (Jim Carrey) ultimately finds the real culprits but not before many mis-adventures. The movie was released in 1994.

Some people after re-watching the movie in the current times are calling it a transphobic. Especially when the characters in the movie discover that Einhorn used to be Finkle. Meanwhile, Ventura finds out and he re-enacts the shower scene from a movie about a transwoman – The Crying Game – in which he breaks down in tears in the shower.

This all happened when Joe Rogan in one of his recent podcasts said the following statement.

Do you know what I made the mistake of doing yesterday? I watched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective with my eight-year-old and my 10-year-old. I didn’t realise how transphobic that movie is.

It’s not only Joe Rogan who found the movie to be offensive. The social activist and model Munroe Bergdorf also found it offensive. She wrote that when the movie villain was caught, it was found that he was actually a man posing to be a woman. Everyone behaved so awkwardly that it was indeed something wrong for Munroe being a trans herself.
