David Hogg, a Parkland shooting survivor that became activist for gun reforms is known to be a leader of the movement regarding the changing gun laws.
He applied for several universities that offered programs in journalism, photography or political science. Before all of the chaos, his plan was to become a filmmaker or a journalist.
After one day of the shooting, that took place at his school he got his first college application later back, which meant that he got rejected from California State University at Long Beach. He got rejections from two more universities as well but the remaining three, where he applied, accepted his letter. But Mr. Hogg has not yet decided in which direction he wants to go. He said, “Sure, it’s disappointing and annoying, but not surprising. There are a lot of amazing people who do not get into or go to college.” He has 4.2 GPA and 1270 SAT scores. Furthermore, he stated, “I wanted to make a difference through storytelling and political activism, but I am already doing that now.”
Just like him, other student activists, who are leaders in #NeverAgain movement are reconsidering their plans to go to the college.
A conservative radio host, Laura Ingraham criticized Mr. Hogg on twitter about his college application denials. “David Hogg Rejected by Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it,” which was a huge mistake apparently.
Mr. Hogg pushed back and shared a number of sponsors in a tweet calling them to boycott Ms. Ingraham’s show which got 128k retweets as of this moment. And one by one all the sponsors dropped the sponsorship.
After which Ms. Ingraham made an apology in a Tweet:
“Any student should be proud of a 4.2 GPA —incl. @DavidHogg111. On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland. For the record, I believe my show was the first to feature David immediately after that horrific shooting and even noted how “poised” he was given the tragedy. As always, he’s welcome to return to the show anytime for a productive discussion.
The apology was rejected by Mr. Hogg in a tweet saying she is only saying it to get her sponsors back.
