Written by Wamiq Ali

Trump recently signed a deal of providing F-15 fighter jets and other advanced weapons with Qatar. A Muslim country which was labelled by U.S. President Trump as a funder for terrorist activities. Recently a warship paid a visit to Doha, the capital city of Qatar, which shows a deep relation of U.S. with the Qatar, a country which is now at dispute with several other Arab countries.

Qatar has housed nearly 10,000 U.S. troops but the dispute between Doha and the nations lead by Saudi Arab has yet to shatter this arrangement. We also saw the propagation of cracks between U.S. and Doha relationship after Trump named Qatar as a country funding terrorists for their own motives. Trump also stated that no nation in the world would bear such an arrangement of funding terrorists. He also said that the Gulf nation had done same in past.

As this happened, United Nations agency overseeing air travel has also reported about Qatar complaints of nations cutting of flying routes for Qatar’s official airline, Qatar Airways. These cut-offs have highly threatened the national airline of Qatar in terms of revenues.

Recently, in Washington, the Qatar’s defence minister paid a visit to U.S. defence secretary Jim Mattis. They signed a deal of military cooperation by providing F-15 fighter jets to Qatar for $12 billion.

Qatar and the United States have solidified their military cooperation by having fought together side by side for many years now in an effort to eradicate terrorism and promote a future of dignity and prosperity, said Qatari Defense Minister Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah

The U.S. military had also signed a similar deal of providing 72 F-15 fighter jets for $21billion during the last days of Obamas administration to Qatar air force. We are yet unclear that whether this new deal is a part of the first one or this is a new arrangement, only time will give us clues.

The U.S. military base, vast Al-Udeid, in Qatar is serving a major important role in the fight against Islamic state group in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. The two U.S. ships which visited Qatar coast are reported to be on a routine visit. However, Qatari media says that the visit was actually a joint navy exercise for both countries.

International relations of America with other Arab nations and Qatar are currently in the problem because of the rift between Qatar and Saudi Lead Arab nations. Qatar is though trying hard to maintain relations with U.S. by maintaining airbase or an office for the Taliban.

Qatar long has wanted to make itself a particularly important ally for America where it can, It has been a bit of a pain at times in other things … but the American angle has often been very important. – Trump administration office released a mixed statement

Qatar relationship with Saudi Arab is currently strained, Saudi Arab isn’t allowing the use of ports and this is causing damage to Qatar’s financial situation. Even Saudi Arab isn’t allowing the air passage of Qatari passenger planes over its territory.
