Wine sniffing is the most important asset in the profession. The nose is worth £3.8million. So the guy, Winemaker Ilja Gort’s, took a wise decision and insured his precious nose.
The nose of European winemaker and taster Ilja Gort has been insured for $8 million, Lloyd’s of London reported on Tuesday. The man insured his nose only after he heard about a similar man losing his sense of smell after getting into a terrible accident.
I thought it must be a horror to lose your smell, It would mean that you cannot taste wine anymore. Tasting wine is something you do with your nose, not your mouth – Gort told NBC news in an interview
Gort, 47-year-old, said that his nose is essential for him to produce top quality wines at his vineyard. His vineyard is located in France. So, to avoid any loss to his business due to any kind accident, the man went forward and preferred to get his nose insured.
A custom policy was made for Gort which covers both his loss of nose or sense of smell. It also covers some unusual conditions. There some “old fashioned rules” included in the insurance contract which forbids Gort to ride a motorcycle, be a boxer, knife thrower assistant or a fire-breather. Each one of this activity can cause loss to the sense of smell or the nose.
It’s worthy to be mentioned that Lloyd’s has insured other popular stars body parts, before. Lloyd’s reported entertainment icon Marlene Dietrich had her legs insured. Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richard had also his finger insured and when he accidentally injured his finger due to a guitar string, he got paid.
Similarly, America Ferrara who participated in Ugly Betty, an Americal television show, had his smile insured for $10 million.
Well, we think that Gort made the right decision. The world is divided into the right doing and the wrong doing.
