GQ magazine has announced the citizen of the Year earlier this morning and it has declared the former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick as it’s Man Of The Year. He will be receiving the owner of the ‘Citizen of the Year’.
Since we all know that it is already November and a lot of famous media outlets will start to look back the entire year in order to declare their selection of the entire year in different categories. GQ is a magazine targeted towards men and it’s only has taken a slightly different route with its 22nd annual choice. People were not expecting Colin Kaepernick as the citizen of the Year. The actress Gal Gadot has been named as the Wonder woman of the Year and the late-night host Stephen Colbert as ‘Bad hombre of the Year’.
“He’s been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL—all because he took a knee to protest police brutality, Colin Kaepernick will not be silenced, But Colin Kaepernick’s determined stand puts him in rare company in sports history: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson—athletes who risked everything to make a difference.” – wrote the editors of the GQ magazine
The magazine had shared the announcement on the Twitter. The announcement included several pictures of Kaepernick alongside some of the men and the women. The magazine captioned that they photographed their citizen of the year. The magazine story includes a lot of support messages in favour of Kaepernick. Rapper J. Cole said that Kaepernick sacrificed his dreams in order to stand for something he believed. Ninety-year-old singer and activist Harry Belafonte said that watching people like Kaepernick taking action is the greatest reward he could ever ask in his life.
Kaepernick tweeted thanks to the magazine for declaring him ‘Citizen of the year’. It’s worth mentioning that Kaepernick was the one who started kneeling instead of standing during NFL games for the national anthem in order to protest against the police brutality. Kaepernick left San Francisco 49ers in March and hasn’t been signed with another team yet.
